Tue Oct 01 02:56:15 UTC 2024: ## Local Artist Explores Identity Through Mixed Media in Upcoming Exhibition

**Raleigh, NC** – The Frankie G. Weems Gallery at Meredith College will host “What We Offer Grows,” an exhibition featuring the work of Brooklyn-based artist Menika Lue. The exhibition, running from October 10th to November 3rd, 2024, delves into themes of identity, cultural influence, and self-perception.

Lue, a bi-racial woman, utilizes a unique blend of metal, canvas, oil paints, and glitter to create paintings and sculptures that represent her own body. These pieces reflect her journey as she navigates the complexities of her identity in a diverse world.

Through her art, Lue examines how personal beliefs are shaped by societal, cultural, and familial influences. She also draws inspiration from historical and contemporary media, using her body as a metaphor for the internal struggles she faces. Her figures are brought to life in expansive videos, granting them the freedom to create their own worlds and aspirations for the future.

“What We Offer Grows” promises to be a thought-provoking and visually engaging experience for visitors. The exhibition is open to the public weekdays from 9am to 5pm and weekends from 2pm to 5pm. The opening reception will be held on October 10th from 5pm to 7pm in the Weems Gallery, followed by a gallery talk in Room 137 of the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

The Frankie G. Weems Gallery is located at 3800 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27607. For more information, please contact Meredith Art Gallery Director, Todd Jones at (919) 760-8087.
