**KANNUR**: India took a firm grip on the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Monday. After two days of play were washed out due to rain and a poor outfield, the Indian team showcased their dominance on day four.
India declared their first innings at 285/9, gaining a crucial 52-run lead after Bangladesh were bowled out for 233 in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal (72) and KL Rahul (68) both hit half-centuries for India, while Virat Kohli (47) and Shubman Gill (39) missed out on their fifties. Captain Rohit Sharma contributed 23 runs.
India’s batting display was marked by an explosive start. Jaiswal and Sharma put on a quick 50 runs in the first three overs. However, Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan Miraz bowled Sharma for 23 in the fourth over.
Jaiswal, who hit his half-century off just 31 balls, continued to bombard the Bangladesh bowlers before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud for 71 off 51 balls.
India’s pace attack was equally impressive in the first innings, with Jasprit Bumrah taking a match-winning 3 wickets. Mohammed Siraj, Akashdeep, and R Ashwin also claimed two wickets each. Ravindra Jadeja picked up the final wicket, his 300th in Test cricket.
Bangladesh’s second innings started disastrously, with R Ashwin dismissing both Zakir Hasan (10) and Hasan Mahmud (4) in quick succession. At stumps, Bangladesh were struggling at 26/2 with 11 overs played.
The match is heading towards a thrilling finish with India firmly in control. Bangladesh will need a monumental effort to salvage a draw in the remaining two days of play.
