Mon Sep 30 21:23:04 UTC 2024: ## Apple Rumored to Launch New Smart Home Hub Combining iPad, Apple TV, and HomePod Features
Apple is reportedly developing a new smart home device that could revolutionize the way we interact with our homes. According to 9to5Mac, sources familiar with the matter have revealed details about the device, codenamed J490.
This new hub, dubbed “HomeAccessory”, is expected to be powered by the A18 chip, promising advanced capabilities like Apple Intelligence features not found in current HomePods.
Interestingly, the device is said to feature a unique square display, a departure from the traditional rectangular format of iPads. While the final design is yet to be confirmed, the square shape could offer a distinct visual experience.
The HomeAccessory is equipped with a built-in camera, enabling FaceTime and other video conferencing applications. Furthermore, the camera can recognize hand gestures from a distance, allowing for intuitive control in settings like the kitchen. This innovative feature could potentially revolutionize smart home control.
The camera can also identify users, enabling personalized requests similar to HomePod’s voice recognition feature.
Like an Apple TV, the HomeAccessory will have the ability to run apps and play media independently, while also functioning as an AirPlay receiver. It boasts a customizable Lock Screen with various clock faces, reminiscent of tvOS 18’s updates for Apple TV.
Although Apple has yet to officially confirm the name or features of this new device, it is expected to launch in the spring of 2025.
This smart home hub, combining the functionality of an iPad, Apple TV, and HomePod, could be a game-changer in the smart home market.
