Mon Sep 30 18:37:09 UTC 2024: ## NLU Delhi Mourns Second Student Suicide in a Month, Announces Measures to Strengthen Mental Health Support

**New Delhi:** National Law University (NLU) Delhi is grappling with the tragic loss of a second student in a month, both of whom died by suicide. Shah Khushil Vishal, a first-year undergraduate, passed away on Sunday, September 23rd, prompting the university to declare the day a non-teaching day in his memory.

This follows the death of Amrutavarshiny Senthil Kumar, a third-year student, earlier this month.

In light of these heartbreaking events, NLU Delhi Registrar Prof. Ruhi Paul emphasized the university’s commitment to prioritizing student well-being. She outlined a range of measures already implemented, including the appointment of on-campus counselors, a physician, and a nurse.

“We are committed to providing all possible support to our students,” said Prof. Paul, noting that students also have 24/7 access to free counseling services through the online platform YourDost.

The university is further expanding its mental health team, currently consisting of two counselors, and is actively working with leading psychiatrists to provide free consultancy services to both students and staff.

“All counselling sessions are completely confidential,” Prof. Paul assured.

To address this urgent situation, NLU Delhi has formed a committee of senior faculty members tasked with consulting stakeholders and recommending measures to enhance student well-being.
