**Ludhiana, Punjab:** In a swift action, the Punjab Police on Sunday arrested two members of an inter-state cyber fraud gang, recovering Rs 5.25 crore from them. The gang is accused of defrauding noted industrialist Shri Paul Oswal, CEO of the Vardhman Group, of Rs 7 crore.
According to Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal, the apprehended suspects, identified as Atanoo Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary, both residents of Guwahati, Assam, are part of a nine-member gang originating from Assam and West Bengal. The remaining seven members are currently being pursued by the police.
The fraudsters employed a sophisticated scheme, impersonating a CBI officer and presenting a fake arrest warrant to Mr. Oswal. They threatened him with digital arrest, leading him to authorize the withdrawal of Rs 7 crore from his bank accounts.
The police, acting on Mr. Oswal’s complaint, launched an investigation and successfully cracked the case within 48 hours.
This incident marks the second major cyber fraud case in Punjab within a week. Previously, a local industrialist, Rajnish Ahuja, was tricked out of Rs 1.01 crore using similar tactics.
The arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen funds demonstrate the Punjab Police’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting the interests of its citizens. The ongoing pursuit of the remaining gang members underscores their dedication to ensuring justice prevails in these cases.
