Sat Sep 28 17:34:27 UTC 2024: ## Massachusetts Electric Crews Head South to Aid Hurricane Helene Recovery

**CHARLESTON, WV** – Twenty electric crews from Massachusetts departed early Saturday morning for West Virginia to assist in restoring power following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The crews, part of National Grid, will join a total of 50 employees heading south to aid Appalachian Power.

“Restoring electricity is essential for the well-being of those impacted by Hurricane Helene,” said Lisa Wieland, president of National Grid New England. “We appreciate the role our line workers assume as first responders in times of crisis.”

Hurricane Helene made landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast Thursday night as a Category 4 storm, rapidly moving through other states on Friday. The storm uprooted trees, damaged homes, and caused widespread flooding. Dozens of deaths have been reported, and millions remain without power across the region.

Eversource has also announced that approximately 40 crews from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire will head to Virginia on Sunday to join the restoration efforts.
