**New Delhi, September 30, 2024:** The Income Tax Department has announced an extension of the deadline for filing audit reports for the financial year 2023-24. The new deadline is now October 7th, 2024, due to technical difficulties encountered by taxpayers.
The department cited “difficulties faced by taxpayers in electronic filing of various audit reports” as the reason for the extension. In a circular, the department acknowledged the ongoing issues and extended the original September 30th deadline by a week.
Rajat Mohan, Executive Director of Moore Singhi, attributed the extension to technical issues in the e-filing system for tax audit reports. He also noted the significant increase in the volume of filings in recent days, leading to strain on the system.
“The load of filings is quite high on the portal, throwing the entire ecosystem in a frenzy,” Mr. Mohan said. He suggested that the government should either upgrade the system to handle such rushes or stagger the timelines for tax filings to prevent future disruptions.
