**Colombo, Sri Lanka:** A stunning 63-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test of the two-match series has given Sri Lanka a significant boost in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. This defeat is a major setback for New Zealand, who have dropped to fourth place in the points table.

Before the match, New Zealand held the third spot, while Sri Lanka occupied the fourth position. However, the Sri Lankan triumph has seen them climb above New Zealand with 48 points from eight matches, their win percentage standing at 50. New Zealand, on the other hand, now sits in fourth place with 36 points from seven matches, their win percentage dropping to 42.86.

This win also brings Sri Lanka closer to securing a spot in the WTC final, which is scheduled to be held in June 2025 at The Oval in London. The top two teams at the end of the championship cycle will qualify for the final.

India remains comfortably at the top of the WTC table with 86 points from 10 matches, a win percentage of 71.67, while Australia holds the second position with 90 points from 12 matches, their win percentage standing at 62.50.

While Sri Lanka celebrates their victory and improved position, Pakistan faces a worrying situation, currently placed eighth with 19.05 win percentage after seven matches. West Indies sits at the bottom of the table, with 18.52 win percentage from nine matches.

As the WTC continues, all teams will be looking to secure victories and climb the points table, ultimately aiming for a coveted spot in the final match.
