Sun Sep 29 11:17:30 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lanka Flourishing Under Jayasuriya’s Leadership: Mathews
**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Sri Lankan veteran Angelo Mathews has lauded the impact of interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, crediting him with revitalizing the team’s performance and fostering a winning spirit.
Jayasuriya, who took over after the disappointing T20 World Cup, has steered Sri Lanka to a string of victories, including an ODI series win over India, a Test win in England, and a commanding 1-0 lead in the ongoing series against New Zealand.
“He was superb as cricket director and now as coach,” said Mathews, who contributed a crucial 88 runs in the first innings of the second Test against New Zealand. “He communicates well, gives us freedom, and has done an amazing job grooming young players.”
Mathews highlighted Jayasuriya’s ability to guide the team back to its traditional, aggressive style of play. “We are working towards one goal, and everyone is on the same page,” he stated. “He has been amazing in guiding us to play the Sri Lankan way of cricket.”
The resurgence under Jayasuriya has also boosted Sri Lanka’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. Currently ranked third on the points table, a win in the second Test against New Zealand would keep them in contention for a top-two finish.
With upcoming Test series against South Africa and Australia, Sri Lanka appears poised for continued success under the leadership of their legendary former captain, Sanath Jayasuriya.
