**Dammam, Saudi Arabia:** FC Barcelona, the reigning European club champions, have broken their own scoring record at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, netting 53 goals against Sydney Uni in a dominant 53-23 victory. This performance surpasses their previous best of 50 goals, achieved two years ago.
Despite the impressive feat, Barcelona currently sits second in their group behind Al-Ahly. Al-Ahly’s impressive 49-goal performance against Sydney Uni in their first match gives them a +34 goal difference, compared to Barcelona’s +30.
Barcelona, aiming to surpass Al-Ahly’s performance, controlled the match from the start. Goalkeeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas shone in the first half, saving 17 shots at a 59% efficiency, while Barcelona’s offense shot at an impressive 84% efficiency. Left wing Manuel Ortega led the scoring with nine goals, while all outfield players contributed at least one goal.
Sydney Uni, on the other hand, struggled to keep up with Barcelona’s attack. They are now guaranteed a third-place finish in the group, which means they will face off in the Placement Matches to avoid finishing last.
Domen Makuc of FC Barcelona was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
