**Lucknow, India:** Young Mumbai all-rounder Musheer Khan, brother of Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan, is recovering after a serious road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway. The 19-year-old sustained neck injuries and is expected to be out of action for at least three months, ruling him out of the upcoming Irani Cup and the start of the Ranji Trophy season.
The accident occurred while Musheer was travelling from his hometown Azamgarh to Lucknow for the Irani Cup, which begins on October 1st. His father, Naushad Khan, who was accompanying him, suffered minor injuries.
Dr. Bhola Singh, Medical Superintendent at Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, confirmed that Musheer is stable and out of danger. He is currently receiving treatment under the supervision of Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Director of the Department of Orthopedics.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) stated that Musheer has sustained a fracture in his neck and is under close observation. The BCCI and MCA medical teams are closely monitoring his progress. Once deemed fit for travel, Musheer will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments.
This news is a major setback for Musheer, who has already established himself as a promising talent in domestic cricket. He has scored three centuries and a half-century in nine First-Class games and was a key player in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy victory last season. He also began the 2024-25 domestic season with a century in the Duleep Trophy.
The reigning Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, will now have to face Rest of India in the Irani Cup without Musheer. The match will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium from October 1st to 5th. Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign begins on October 11th against Baroda.
