Sun Sep 29 09:25:06 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Booked in Land Scam Case

**Mysore, Karnataka:** Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been booked in a land scam case, a major blow to the ruling Congress government. The case, registered by the Lokayukta police in Mysore, alleges that the CM used his position to benefit his family in a land deal.

The FIR also names Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvathi, his brother-in-law Mallikarjun, and another individual, Devaraj.

The controversy stems from the acquisition of a 3.16-acre plot belonging to Parvathi by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). This plot, gifted to her by her brother, was reportedly exchanged for valuable plots worth crores of rupees. The opposition BJP claims the government deliberately offered exorbitant compensation to benefit the CM’s family.

Following an RTI application by activists Snehamayi Krishna and Abraham, who unearthed the alleged irregularities, the Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot ordered an investigation. While the state government initially challenged the Governor’s order in court, the High Court upheld the decision, leading to the FIR being registered.

The special court has directed the police to investigate the case under CrPC Section 156(c) and submit a report by December 24th.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has expressed its support for Siddaramaiah, stating that he is innocent until proven guilty. The party’s national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, has asserted that Siddaramaiah is ready to face the legal battle.

The BJP, however, has demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation, drawing parallels with the controversies surrounding Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The BJP also pointed to the recent allegations of corruption against the Siddaramaiah government in the “Valmiki Scam,” which involves the diversion of government funds meant for tribal welfare.

This case adds further pressure on the Siddaramaiah government, which is already facing allegations of corruption and mismanagement. The developments are likely to intensify the political battle in the state ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
