Thu Sep 26 13:51:35 UTC 2024: ## Venezuelan Foreign Minister Accuses Israel of “Genocide” at UN, Defends Maduro Regime

**NEW YORK** – Venezuela’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yván Gil used his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday to launch a scathing attack against Israel, accusing it of perpetrating “the greatest crime of extermination and genocide since the one committed by Hitler” with the “complicity” of the United States and the European Union.

Gil, speaking on behalf of embattled Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who faces numerous U.S. charges and a $15 million bounty on his head, delivered a speech focused on condemning Israel and the U.S. He also defended other rogue regimes such as Cuba and Iran, calling for the lifting of all sanctions against Venezuela and its allies.

Gil justified the lifting of U.S. sanctions based on an alleged agreement signed in Doha, Qatar, in 2023, between the Maduro regime and the Biden administration.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister also made baseless claims about the U.S. orchestrating a “coup” against Maduro and planning terrorist attacks against his regime. He accused the U.S. and its allies of a “false narrative” regarding the July 28 presidential election, which Maduro claimed he won despite the regime’s refusal to release voter data to corroborate the results.

Gil’s accusations sparked outrage among observers, who denounced his speech as inflammatory and misleading. His claims of a “genocide” by Israel and the U.S. were widely dismissed as baseless and inflammatory.

The speech also drew criticism for its attempt to deflect blame for the Maduro regime’s human rights abuses onto the U.S. and its allies. Despite evidence of a brutal crackdown on dissent, Gil claimed the Venezuelan “oligarchy” was responsible for the violence and deaths of protesters.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister’s speech at the UN serves as a stark reminder of the Maduro regime’s isolation on the world stage and its continued attempts to deflect blame for its own failings.
