**Washington, D.C.** – US President Joe Biden has announced a significant package of support for Ukraine, including nearly $8 billion in military aid and a high-level meeting of Ukrainian allies in Germany next month.
In a statement on Thursday, Biden outlined plans to convene the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Germany, bringing together over 50 countries supporting Ukraine’s defense against Russia. The meeting will focus on coordinating efforts and bolstering Ukrainian resistance.
The aid package includes new long-range munitions, an additional Patriot air defense battery, and Patriot missiles. Notably, the aid package also includes the first shipment of Joint Standoff Weapons, a precision-guided glide bomb with a range of up to 81 miles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, currently visiting the US, expressed gratitude for the aid, stating it would be used “in the most efficient and transparent manner.”
While Biden did not address Ukraine’s request for permission to fire US long-range missiles into Russia, the newly announced aid package represents a significant escalation in US support for Ukraine’s defense efforts.
