Fri Sep 27 04:08:21 UTC 2024: ## Tottenham Cruise to Europa League Victory Despite Red Card and Son Injury Scare

Tottenham Hotspur began their Europa League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Qarabag on Thursday, despite playing for over 80 minutes with 10 men. However, the match was overshadowed by an injury to star forward Son Heung-min, who was forced off in the 70th minute.

The North Londoners dominated from the start, taking the lead in the 12th minute through Brennan Johnson, who scored his third goal in as many games. Pape Sarr added a second in the 52nd minute, and Dominic Solanke wrapped up the scoring in the 68th minute.

The match was marred by an early red card for Qarabag’s Radu Dragusin, who was sent off for pulling down Juninho in the 8th minute. Despite being down a man, Tottenham continued to dominate the game and created numerous chances.

Son’s injury will be a cause for concern for manager Ange Postecoglou, who cannot afford to be without his talismanic captain for an extended period. Postecoglou has previously stated that he enjoys success in his second season with a club, and the Europa League could offer a path to silverware for Tottenham, who haven’t won a trophy since 2008.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe secured a 2-1 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise, while Ajax thrashed Besiktas 4-0. Roma were held to a 1-1 draw by Athletic Bilbao, despite taking the lead through Artem Dovbyk. Olympiakos, the reigning Conference League champions, were beaten 2-0 by Lyon, and Eintracht Frankfurt blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Viktoria Plzen. Rangers also enjoyed a winning start, defeating Malmo 2-0.
