In a move to ensure the quality of prasadam (sacred offerings) in temples, the Telangana government has ordered all major temple managements in the state to procure ghee exclusively from Telangana Vijaya Dairy. This directive follows a recent controversy surrounding adulterated ghee used in the making of laddu prasadam at the Tirupati temple.
A senior official stated that an order has been issued prohibiting the use of substandard or uncertified ghee in all temples. The official also emphasized that Vijaya Dairy has sufficient ghee production capacity to meet the demands of all temples in the state.
Beyond ghee, the government has also issued instructions to ensure the quality of all other ingredients used in the preparation of prasadam. This measure aims to maintain the purity and integrity of the offerings distributed in temples.
The directive applies to over a dozen temples in Telangana that generate an annual revenue exceeding ₹1 crore, along with 24 others earning around ₹50 lakh. While major temples such as Yadadri utilize a tender system for ghee procurement, most smaller temples source it directly from private suppliers. This new order aims to standardize the process and guarantee the quality of prasadam across all temples in the state.
