Fri Sep 27 14:37:53 UTC 2024: ## Himachal Pradesh Government Backtracks on Mandatory ID Display for Food Stall Owners

**Shimla:** The Himachal Pradesh government has backpedaled on a statement made by its Public Works and Urban Development Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, regarding mandatory ID display for food stall owners.

Just a day after Singh announced the requirement, the state government clarified that no such decision has been made. A spokesperson stated that a committee, chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, is currently reviewing the street vendor policy and will consider all suggestions before making any final decision.

The committee, comprised of Congress and BJP legislators, is examining the suggestions received from various stakeholders, including the public.

Vikramaditya Singh, son of six-time CM Virbhadra Singh, defended his earlier statement, clarifying that he was speaking in his capacity as Urban Development Minister and not as a member of the committee. He added that his suggestion was based on certain guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and High Courts.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar mandate in Uttar Pradesh, where the government has made it mandatory for food outlets to display the name and address of operators.

While the Himachal Pradesh government is still reviewing the policy, the backtracking highlights the sensitive nature of the issue and the need for thorough consultation with all stakeholders before implementing any new regulations.
