New York City Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on Thursday by federal authorities on five counts related to alleged corruption. The charges include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and receiving campaign contributions from foreign nationals, as well as individual counts of wire fraud and soliciting contributions from foreign nationals.
The Democrat, who took office in 2022, has denied any wrongdoing. In a statement released on Wednesday, he said, “I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target—and a target I became. If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”
