Barcelona are facing a goalkeeper crisis following the season-ending injury to first-choice Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who ruptured his patella tendon over the weekend. In response, the Spanish giants are reportedly set to sign veteran Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a short-term deal.

Szczesny, who announced his retirement from football in August after leaving Juventus, has expressed his willingness to help out Barcelona, acknowledging the club’s “difficult situation.” He told Spanish news outlet Sport, “I have a lot of respect for Barca’s history, it is one of the best clubs in the world… I think it would be disrespectful of me not to consider this option.”

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed the club is looking for a more experienced goalkeeper to back up their young reserve Inaki Pena. “We need more experience and that’s why we’re talking about it,” Flick said.

The 33-year-old Szczesny boasts a decorated career, having amassed over 250 caps for Poland and winning three league titles and three Italian cups with Juventus. He is expected to arrive in Barcelona soon to have a medical before officially signing with the club.

Barcelona currently sit atop LaLiga with a perfect record after seven games. They will next face Osasuna on Saturday.
