**New Delhi:** India took a significant leap forward in scientific advancement on Thursday with the launch of three domestically developed supercomputers, known as PARAM Rudra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the systems, emphasized the country’s commitment to fostering scientific innovation and self-reliance.
The PARAM Rudra supercomputers, designed for high-speed computation and simulation, will be deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata. They are expected to accelerate research in various fields, including weather forecasting, climate modeling, chemical discovery, materials science, and artificial intelligence.
“This is a momentous day for India in science, technology, and research,” stated Prime Minister Modi, highlighting the country’s focus on these areas. “Our engineers and scientists have successfully developed these supercomputers, and I dedicate this achievement to the youth of India.”
The supercomputers will be housed at prominent scientific institutions, including the Giant Meter Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune, the Inter-University Accelerator Center in Delhi, and the S N Bose Center in Kolkata. These institutions will leverage the supercomputing power to advance their research in areas like astrophysics, physical sciences, and earth sciences.
The PARAM Rudra project is a key component of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), an initiative aimed at bolstering India’s computing infrastructure to meet the growing demands of students, researchers, and businesses.
Prime Minister Modi further emphasized the role of supercomputers in driving the digital revolution and ensuring that the benefits of technology reach all citizens. He also highlighted the importance of scientific innovation in achieving India’s economic and societal goals, asserting that “India must lead globally in scientific innovation.”
