**Pune, India (September 26, 2024)** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated three indigenously developed PARAM Rudra supercomputers, a significant milestone in India’s National Supercomputing Mission. The event also saw the launch of a ₹850 crore High-Performance Computing system dedicated to weather and climate research.

PM Modi highlighted the importance of technology for empowering the poor and achieving ambitious goals. He emphasized India’s commitment to science and technology, citing the Mission Gaganyaan program for a manned space mission by 2035 and the establishment of a domestic semiconductor ecosystem.

The three PARAM Rudra supercomputers, built at a cost of ₹130 crore, will be deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata. These supercomputers will facilitate groundbreaking research in diverse fields, including astronomy, material science, atomic physics, and earth sciences.

The new High-Performance Computing (HPC) system, named ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika,’ is located at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune and the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF) in Noida. This system, with its extraordinary computing power, will dramatically improve the accuracy and lead time of weather predictions for critical events like cyclones, heavy rainfall, heat waves, and droughts.

PM Modi called this day a “very big achievement” in the science and technology sector, emphasizing India’s commitment to technological advancement and its ambition to lead the world in computational power.
