Fri Sep 27 15:08:10 UTC 2024: ## India Unveils Three Powerful Supercomputers, Boosting Scientific Research

**New Delhi, India:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated three state-of-the-art supercomputers, collectively known as “Param Rudra,” marking a significant stride in India’s scientific computing capabilities. These systems, costing Rs 130 crore, will be strategically located in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata, facilitating groundbreaking research in fields like science, healthcare, and space exploration.

“With Param Rudra Supercomputers and the HPC system, India takes a significant step towards self-reliance in computing and driving innovation in science and tech,” PM Modi declared at the launch. He emphasized the critical role of technology and computing in all sectors and highlighted India’s rapid progress in this domain.

The supercomputer in Pune will be utilized by the Giant Metre Radio Telescope (GMRT) to delve deeper into Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) and other celestial phenomena. In Delhi, the system at the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) will enhance research in material science and atomic physics. The S N Bose Centre in Kolkata will leverage the supercomputer for advanced studies in physics, cosmology, and earth sciences.

In addition to the “Param Rudra” systems, PM Modi also inaugurated two High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems—’Arka’ and ‘Arunika’. These systems, valued at Rs 850 crore, will be deployed at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune and the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) in Noida, respectively, to enhance weather and climate research.

This development underscores India’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration and leveraging technology for national development. The supercomputers will play a vital role in solving complex problems, fostering innovation, and propelling India’s journey towards technological self-sufficiency.
