**London, UK** – Photographer Chris Dorley Brown has released a new book titled “A History of the East End,” showcasing the dramatic transformation of London’s East End over the past four decades. The book, featuring images taken between 1987 and 2023, documents the area’s shift from a post-war welfare state to a more capitalist landscape.

Dorley Brown’s photographs capture a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, highlighting the subtle changes that often go unnoticed. They feature iconic landmarks like the Lord Napier pub in Hackney Wick, as well as everyday scenes of hospitals, social housing, and deserted streets during the lockdown.

The book explores the impact of development on the East End, noting the rise of luxury flat developments, the 2012 Olympics, and the emergence of Hackney as a hub for creativity and entrepreneurship.

“There’s been a hell of a lot of changes in east London in the last few years, and in the last few decades,” says Dorley Brown. “A lot of the things we took for granted in a civic sense – like football matches and factories and workplaces and places where we used to gather – have now either kind of completely disappeared or they’re being repurposed.”

“A History of the East End” is a poignant reflection on the evolution of a city in flux, providing a glimpse into a past that is rapidly disappearing and a glimpse into a future that remains uncertain. The book is available at Pages of Hackney for £30.
