Thu Sep 26 13:27:42 UTC 2024: ## Kelce Content With Reduced Targets, Mahomes Still Wants to Feed Him

**Kansas City, MO** – Despite a relatively quiet start to the season, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is showing remarkable team spirit. While his reception numbers are down – he’s caught just eight passes for 69 yards in three games – Kelce has publicly stated he’s happy with the ball going elsewhere as long as the team keeps winning.

“I feel like I want to give him the ball more, whereas he’s just like, ‘I just want to win, man. I don’t care, I’ll run these routes and take guys with me so that other guys can get open,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “We understand he’s an important part of this offense, and we want to make sure that we’re still featuring him, but at the same time, if defenses are going to take away him, I’ll feed the ball to other guys and let them make plays.”

Mahomes’ primary target this season has been rookie receiver Rashee Rice, who’s already racked up 24 receptions on 29 targets. Kelce sits second on the team with 12 targets and eight catches. However, Mahomes believes that this shift in focus is only temporary.

“As the season goes on, if we continue to show that we’re going to throw it to Rashee [Rice] and we’re going to throw it to these other guys and they’re going to make plays, teams are going to have to do those one-on-one matchups and that’s when Travis will eat,” added Mahomes.

Kelce’s attitude has impressed his quarterback, who believes it’s a testament to his commitment to the team’s success.

“He wants to make an impact in the game and he wants to make plays, but he wants to win at the end of the day,” said Mahomes. “If we’re winning, he’s good with just going out there and playing hard, blocking, doing whatever he can to impact the game.”

With the Chiefs facing their divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, this week, Kelce could see a resurgence in his receiving numbers. He has historically performed well against the Chargers, with 100 catches, 1,223 yards, and eight touchdowns in 18 career games against them.
