Thu Sep 26 13:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Woman Narrowly Escapes Death After Highway Accident Leaves Her Trapped With No Cell Service

**St. Alban’s, NL** – A woman from a remote southern Newfoundland outport has recounted her harrowing experience after a highway accident left her trapped with no cell service. Kelly Willcott, travelling to a routine appointment in Grand Falls-Windsor last week, found herself in a terrifying situation when her truck flipped and rolled into a ditch.

Willcott, driving cautiously on Highway 360 due to heavy rain, lost control after hitting a large puddle. She remembers “fishtailing across the road” before her truck veered into the ditch, flipping and rolling several times.

Left hanging upside down and unable to access her phone due to a lack of cell service, Willcott struggled to free herself. She attempted to break a window with a crowbar but was unsuccessful, fearing for her life as the pain from the accident began to set in.

Just five minutes after the accident, two strangers came to her aid. One of them, a Good Samaritan who quickly turned his car around after witnessing the accident, heard Willcott’s cries for help.

Another passerby drove to a nearby cabin and called 911 using Starlink internet, while the Good Samaritan helped Willcott escape her overturned truck. First responders arrived soon after to attend to her injuries.

Willcott, who is still recovering from bruising and whiplash, expressed immense gratitude for those who came to her rescue, saying she is “still overwhelmed.” She also emphasized the importance of cell service on the highway, highlighting the potential danger of being stranded in a remote area with no way to call for help.

“It should be on that highway,” Willcott stated. “I just did not expect it that day. … I thought I did everything right, but you know, sometimes it’s not enough.”
