Thu Sep 26 14:18:30 UTC 2024: ## Tyrone Star Conor McKenna on the Brink of AFL Grand Final Glory

**Melbourne, Australia** – Former Tyrone All-Ireland winner Conor McKenna is poised to become the second Irishman to win both the All-Ireland Senior Football title and the Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final.

McKenna, who helped Tyrone claim the 2021 All-Ireland, is set to feature for the Brisbane Lions in Saturday morning’s Grand Final against the Sydney Swans. Only Kerry man Tadhg Kennelly has previously achieved this feat, winning the AFL Grand Final in 2005 with the Sydney Swans and the All-Ireland with Kerry in 2009.

McKenna’s AFL career took an unexpected turn in 2020 when he returned to Ireland after a controversial Covid-19 incident. However, he returned to the AFL in 2022, signing with the Brisbane Lions.

While injury hampered his 2024 season, McKenna has fought his way back to fitness and has become a crucial impact substitute for the Lions. He played a key role in their recent victory over Geelong, setting up a vital goal for teammate Logan Morris.

McKenna’s versatility allows him to impact the game both offensively and defensively, a crucial asset for a team looking to secure the AFL premiership.

“I’d rather be playing (in the 22) but that’s my role at the moment,” McKenna told news.com.au. “If I’m selected to play this week, I’d love to play from the start but if not, I’ll be the sub again and come on and have an impact like I’ve had for the past three weeks.”

With the Grand Final just hours away, McKenna is hoping to make history and join Kennelly in this exclusive club.
