**Venice, Italy -** The first trailer for Pablo Larraín’s highly anticipated biopic “Maria,” starring Angelina Jolie as iconic opera singer Maria Callas, has been unveiled. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival to an eight-minute standing ovation, is generating buzz and is considered a frontrunner for awards season.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the life of the American-born Greek soprano, who tragically passed away at the age of 53. From her early rise to fame to the complexities of her personal life, “Maria” promises to be a captivating exploration of the legendary artist.

Joining Jolie in the stellar cast are Valeria Golino, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Haluk Bilginer, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, Jeremy Wheeler and Rebecka Johnston. The film is directed by Pablo Larraín, known for his acclaimed work on “El Conde” and “Spencer,” and written by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight.

Larraín has spoken about his passion for cinema and opera, calling the opportunity to combine both through “Maria” a dream come true. He praised Jolie’s dedication and artistic curiosity, stating that working with her has been “a true gift.”

Jolie, who has been vocal about her admiration for Larraín, described the responsibility of portraying Callas’ life and legacy as something she takes seriously. She expressed her excitement to tell more of the singer’s story with the help of Larraín and screenwriter Knight.

Production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas collaborated with Larraín to create both period-accurate settings and surreal musical sequences, adding a unique visual layer to the film. Filming took place in Budapest, Paris, Greece and Milan.

“Maria” will have a limited theatrical release on November 27, followed by a Netflix premiere on December 11.
