Thu Sep 26 15:04:59 UTC 2024: ## Man Remanded in Custody After Hijacking Car With Baby Inside

**Dublin, Ireland** – A 47-year-old man, Noel Ryan, was remanded in custody on Tuesday after being charged with hijacking a car and abducting a five-month-old baby girl who was in the vehicle when it was taken “by force” in Dublin city-centre.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the baby’s mother was taking a buggy out of the boot of her car, which was parked on Mountjoy Square West. Mr. Ryan allegedly entered the vehicle and drove off with the infant still inside.

A public appeal and child rescue alert were issued by gardai (Irish police) as they searched for the baby. The car, with the child unharmed, was found parked on North Richmond Street shortly after 4 pm.

Mr. Ryan was arrested on Tuesday and charged with unlawful seizure of the vehicle and taking the baby from her parent’s lawful control. He remained silent during the court proceedings and has yet to indicate a plea.

Judge Gerard Jones remanded Mr. Ryan in custody and ordered him to appear in Cloverhill District Court on October 3rd. Legal aid was granted to Mr. Ryan, and the defense was given 48 hours notice to file any bail application.

Due to section 93 of the Children Act, media coverage of the case is restricted to protect the infant’s right to anonymity.
