**Lincoln City midfielder Dylan Duffy has been fined £4,000 by the Football Association after admitting to multiple breaches of anti-betting rules.**
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international admitted to the charge at the first opportunity and cooperated fully with the investigation. Duffy was initially charged in July for allegedly placing or enabling bets on 30 matches between August 2023 and April 2024.
The investigation revealed that the bets were placed by Duffy’s brother Daniel on a Paddy Power account under Dylan’s name. Duffy claimed he had no knowledge of the bets but acknowledged he had a separate account with Boylesports in his brother’s name.
During the investigation, Duffy expressed concerns about a potential gambling addiction and has been referred to Sporting Chance, a UK-based charity offering support to professional athletes.
Lincoln City has stated that they will continue to support Duffy privately. The club signed the midfielder from UC Dublin in January 2023.
Duffy’s case is the latest in a series of betting breaches by professional footballers. Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali was banned for 10 months in October 2023 for placing bets on games, while Reading’s Mark Bowen was charged in May 2024 with placing 95 bets on matches.
