Fri Sep 27 17:19:38 UTC 2024: ## Second Monkeypox Case Confirmed in Kerala, Patient in Stable Condition

**Kochi, India -** Kerala has confirmed its second case of monkeypox (Mpox), with a 29-year-old man currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Kochi. The man, who recently arrived in the state from abroad, is reportedly in stable condition.

The news was announced by Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Friday, less than two weeks after the first case was detected in the state. The initial case involved a 38-year-old man who arrived from the UAE and was admitted to a hospital in Manjery.

Tests are underway to determine the strain of the Mpox virus in the latest case. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the virus found in the first patient was the highly transmissible ‘clade 1b’ strain, which is currently linked to the ongoing outbreak in Africa and other parts of the world. This marked the first confirmed case of Mpox in India.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a public health emergency in Africa in August. The virus spreads through close contact and commonly presents with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, headache, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches.

The Kerala health department is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the virus.
