Fri Sep 27 16:24:00 UTC 2024: ## Mendis Blazes to Fifth Test Century, Equalling Bradman’s Record

**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Kamindu Mendis continued his sensational start to his Test career, smashing his fifth century in just 13 innings during the second Test against New Zealand on Friday. The young batsman reached the milestone in 147 balls, steering Sri Lanka past 400 runs.

Mendis’s knock, his second ton of the series, also saw him equal legendary Australian batsman Don Bradman’s record for the fastest to five Test centuries. Only Everton Weekes, Herbert Sutcliffe and Neil Harvey have achieved the feat in fewer innings. This achievement also makes Mendis the fastest Asian batsman to reach this milestone, surpassing Pakistan’s Fawad Alam who reached the landmark in 22 innings.

The 23-year-old has been in phenomenal form since his return to the Test side in March, scoring a century in each of his last three matches. His current innings is his third 50+ score in as many innings, and he’s also on course to reach 1000 Test runs in the quickest possible time.

Sri Lanka, who are currently leading the series 1-0, are in a strong position thanks to Mendis’s heroics and a century from Dinesh Chandimal (116). Angelo Mathews also contributed significantly with a knock of 88.

The second Test is proving to be a memorable one for Mendis, who has already cemented his place as a crucial player in the Sri Lankan batting lineup. His extraordinary form is making waves in the cricketing world and has fans and experts alike marveling at his talent.
