Thu Sep 26 14:04:26 UTC 2024: ## Carville Urges Harris to Shift Economic Focus to Trump’s Potential Dangers

**Washington, D.C.** – Democratic strategist James Carville has advised Vice President Kamala Harris to abandon the current messaging about the economy and instead focus on the potential dangers of a second Trump presidency. According to a recent New York Times/Siena College poll, former President Trump holds a 13-point lead over Harris on who voters believe would manage the economy more effectively.

Carville, in his “Politics War Room” podcast, argues that highlighting the Biden-Harris administration’s economic successes is ineffective, given the current perception of the economy. He suggests that Harris instead emphasize the potential economic devastation that Trump’s policies, such as tariffs and mass deportation, would inflict.

“Trump has given the Harris campaign a great gift,” Carville stated. “He has, on multiple occasions, said that you have nothing to lose. Alright, that is, whether you have nothing to lose or something to lose is a very, very different conversation as to whether you think the economy is good or bad.”

Carville cited the Biden-Harris administration’s decision to maintain Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports and the subsequent increase in tariffs targeting imports of electric vehicles and other green energy technology as a key reason for the public’s economic anxiety. He believes these policies are particularly harmful to farmers and agricultural communities, explaining why Harris is trailing in Iowa by a slim margin.

“We no longer have to convince people that the economy is good,” Carville said. “We only have to convince people that they have something to lose, which is a much easier job.”

He recommended that Harris visit Iowa economic venues and deliver a message of warning: “You have a lot to lose, and the tariffs will make you and the whole country poorer, and it’ll do it quickly and efficiently.”

The strategy shift comes amidst recent polling data that shows a majority of voters perceive Trump’s presidency as a success, while only 37% view Biden’s term positively. CNN political commentator Scott Jennings described this perception as a “major problem” for Harris, given her close association with the current administration.
