Fri Sep 27 13:36:01 UTC 2024: ## Rain and Bad Light Cut Short Day 1 of Second Test Between India and Bangladesh

**Kanpur, India** – The first day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur was cut short due to bad weather, with only 35 overs bowled before rain forced an early end to the day’s play. Bangladesh reached 107-3 at stumps, with Mominul Haque (40) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6) at the crease.

India, who elected to field first in overcast conditions, made an early impact with pace bowler Akash Deep picking up two wickets in the first hour. Deep dismissed both openers, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam, and looked threatening with his consistent length balls that moved away from the batters.

However, Bangladesh fought back through skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (31), who put on a valuable 51-run partnership with Mominul Haque. Shanto’s innings was cut short by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who claimed his 420th Test wicket in Asia, surpassing Anil Kumble’s record.

Rain and bad light then intervened, putting a stop to play after lunch. This match could be the last Test outing for former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who announced his impending international retirement on Thursday.

The match is set to resume on Saturday, with India looking to extend their lead in the two-match series.
