**Kanpur, India:** India’s team management remains undecided on whether to field three spinners in the second Test against Bangladesh, starting Thursday at Green Park Stadium. The decision will be influenced by the pitch’s condition and the overhead conditions on the morning of the match.
Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar indicated that the two pitches prepared by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association are both looking good. However, the team is still uncertain about the bounce and how the wicket will behave. “It is too early for us to judge and decide,” Nayar said.
Rain is predicted for the opening day and day three of the match, adding another variable to consider. The team had opted for two spinners and three pacers in the first Test in Chennai.
Should India decide on three spinners, either Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav could be included. Nayar, however, remained noncommittal about Kuldeep’s potential inclusion. “To be honest, I don’t know which surface we are going to play on yet,” he said.
Nayar also expressed optimism about KL Rahul’s future in Test cricket under head coach Gautam Gambhir. He believes that Rahul’s understanding of his game and the guidance from the coaching staff could lead to a turnaround in his Test fortunes.
The team’s fielding has also been a highlight, with Nayar attributing this to the emphasis on fitness across Indian cricket. “Overall, right from when Virat took over, the emphasis on fitness has directly resulted in better fielders,” he said.
While the team does not have a designated vice-captain, Nayar believes it is not needed. “You’ve got a lot of captains, ideal captains in this team,” he said, adding that the team’s young players are already displaying leadership qualities.
Nayar emphasized that India will approach the match without any preconceived notions about the Bangladeshi spinners. He believes in adapting to the conditions on the day and not relying on expectations.
With the weather playing a significant role, the Kanpur Test promises to be an intriguing contest as both teams look to secure a series victory.
