Thu Sep 26 13:53:08 UTC 2024: ## Root on Track to Surpass Tendulkar’s Test Run Record, Says Hogg

**Chennai, India:** While Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 Test runs remains unbreakable for now, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg believes England captain Joe Root is on track to surpass it. Root currently sits atop the active Test run-scorers with 12,402 runs in 146 matches, just 4,000 runs shy of Tendulkar’s mark in 66 fewer games.

Hogg, in a recent YouTube video, expressed his confidence in Root’s ability to break the record, stating, “Joe Root has 146 Test matches with 12,000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar made nearly 16,000 runs in 200 Test matches. That’s 4,000 runs in 66 Tests. I think Joe Root can go close to toppling that.”

He further predicted that Root will have Tendulkar’s record in the back of his mind, adding, “Watch out, Joe Root is on the move to beat Sachin Tendulkar. I think quietly he’ll have that in the back of his mind to try and topple that little unique stat.”

Meanwhile, Hogg believes Virat Kohli, another contender for the top spot, is unlikely to catch Tendulkar. Kohli, despite his stellar career, has struggled with form in recent years, scoring just 6 and 17 in the India vs Bangladesh Test series.

“I just don’t think Virat is going to get there. I think he’s lost his momentum and the momentum that he’s lost has been for a number of years now. He’s got to turn around in the next 10 Test matches, or he’s going to drop off,” said Hogg.

While Tendulkar’s record remains a monumental achievement, Root’s consistent run-scoring and his current position in the Test rankings suggest that he could be the one to finally break the legendary batsman’s record.
