**London, UK -** Frieze London, the annual art fair that draws royalty, celebrities, and art enthusiasts to Regent’s Park, is getting a major makeover for its 2024 edition. The event will be reimagined around the theme of “global energy,” reflecting the diverse cultural melting pot of London and the vibrant international exchange within the art world.
The fair’s artistic director, Eva Langret, has spearheaded the revamp, introducing full-frame windows to showcase the art to the public, a new layout for easier navigation, and dedicated seating areas for moments of rest and conversation.
“It’s Botox time,” Langret jokes, describing the dramatic transformation that will make the experience more accessible and engaging.
The event will kick off with two solo presentations themed around global energy: one by Danielle Dean from New York-based gallery 47 Canal and another by Indian gallery Experimenter.
“Frieze London is that one moment in the calendar where everything comes together,” says Langret. “There is no other time or place where you’re going to see 160 galleries come together and showcase the best work that their artists have made in the last year.”
This year’s fair will feature a diverse range of exhibiting galleries, including 80M2 Livia Benavides from Lima, Peru, specializing in Latin American conceptual art; Greek gallery The Breeder; and Egypt’s Gypsum gallery from Cairo, which counts politically provocative artist Basim Magdy among its roster.
“The fair is very much about opening ourselves up to new geographies of art and including those who have not been part of the discourse yet,” Langret explains.
Reflecting the themes of the 60th Venice Biennale, Frieze London will also explore issues of memory, migration, racial injustice, and climate change through a special section curated by Pablo José Ramírez of the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
With its increasingly global outlook, Frieze London has solidified its position as a leading force in the art world, expanding its reach to New York, Los Angeles, and Seoul. The fair’s 20th anniversary edition last year saw robust numbers despite economic challenges, and high expectations remain for this year’s event.
