Fri Sep 27 16:25:02 UTC 2024: ## Ricciardo Out, Lawson In: Red Bull’s Sister Team Embraces Youth Movement

**Singapore, Singapore** – In a move that surprised many, Daniel Ricciardo has announced his departure from the Red Bull-affiliated Formula One team, formerly known as Alpha Tauri. The Australian driver, who returned to the team mid-season in 2023 after a stint with McLaren, will be replaced by Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson, effective immediately.

Ricciardo, a veteran of 14 seasons in F1 with eight race wins and 32 podiums, thanked his fans and teams for their support throughout his career. He expressed gratitude for the “wild and wonderful journey” and acknowledged the highs and lows that come with the sport.

While he was rumored to potentially return to the main Red Bull team, the decision to replace him was ultimately made by Red Bull’s sister team, as Ricciardo was out of contract at the end of the current season.

Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies praised Ricciardo for his contributions, emphasizing his “fantastic attitude” and the “tight team spirit” he fostered.

Lawson, a 22-year-old New Zealander, has some F1 experience having filled in for Ricciardo during his wrist injury in 2023. He has also served as the reserve driver for both Red Bull and its sister team. His first full-time race is set for the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas next month.

Ricciardo, who has publicly expressed his desire to become world champion, has said he is proud of his career but still has “a lot to give.” It remains unclear whether he will return to the sport in the future.

This move marks a significant shift for Red Bull’s sister team, as it embraces a new era with a young driver. While the team has served as a development ground for future Red Bull drivers in the past, no one has received the call-up since Alex Albon in 2019.
