Kanpur, India: Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has suggested that India may opt to try left-arm pacer Yash Dayal in place of either Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Siraj in the second Test against Bangladesh, starting Friday. Dayal, known for his tremendous potential, could provide a valuable opportunity to see a left-arm seamer in action for India.
This comes amidst India’s focus on managing the workload of their pace attack, as confirmed by skipper Rohit Sharma before the start of the series. While assistant coach Abhishek Nayar remained tight-lipped about the playing XI during the pre-match press conference, Parthiv believes Dayal’s inclusion would be a worthwhile experiment.
“This will be a great chance to see a left-armer. It has been a while since India had a left-arm seamer, so I feel if he gets the chance, it will be good. We will know. Yash Dayal has tremendous potential. So I don’t think there is harm in trying,” Parthiv told ANI.
Meanwhile, the middle order is also a point of interest, with Sarfaraz Ahmed and Dhruv Jurel both knocking on the door after impressive performances in the recent England series. Despite their recent success, Parthiv feels that the return of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will likely keep them out of the playing XI for now.
“I don’t think Sarfaraz and Dhruv will make a comeback to the side. Rishabh has just made a comeback. Both of them are very very talented players and very much ready for Test cricket. But they will have to wait for their chances,” Parthiv added.
Jurel and Dayal have been named in the Rest of India squad for the upcoming Irani Cup, while Sarfaraz is set to play for Mumbai. This gives them a chance to showcase their skills if they miss out on a spot in the Bangladesh Test.
