Fri Sep 27 16:56:26 UTC 2024: ## Central Government Announces Minimum Wage Hike for Unorganized Sector Workers

**New Delhi, September 27, 2024:** The Central government has announced a revised Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), leading to an increase in minimum wage rates for workers in the unorganized sector, effective from October 1st, 2024.

This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on workers in various sectors including construction, loading and unloading, security, cleaning, housekeeping, mining, and agriculture. The new rates are classified based on skill levels (unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled) and geographical regions (Areas A, B, and C).

In Area A, the new minimum daily wages are:
* Unskilled workers: Rs 783 (Rs 20,358 per month)
* Semi-skilled workers: Rs 868 (Rs 22,568 per month)
* Skilled workers and clerks: Rs 954 (Rs 24,804 per month)
* Highly skilled workers and armed security: Rs 1,035 (Rs 26,910 per month)

This is the second wage revision in 2024, following an update in April. The government adjusts the VDA biannually based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers.

The wage hike is expected to benefit a large number of workers in the unorganized sector, providing them with greater financial security and contributing to their overall well-being.
