Fri Sep 27 14:38:56 UTC 2024: ## Counterfeit Drugs Flagged in India, Pharma Companies React
**New Delhi, September 27, 2024:** Several leading Indian pharmaceutical companies have publicly denounced the presence of counterfeit drugs in the market, claiming that those listed in the latest Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) report were not manufactured by them.
The CDSCO report flagged over 50 drug samples, including common medications like paracetamol, calcium and vitamin D3 supplements, and anti-diabetes pills, as substandard.
Sun Pharma, Torrent Pharma, Alkem Laboratories, and Glenmark all issued statements asserting that the specific batches of drugs identified by the CDSCO were spurious and not produced by their companies.
Sun Pharma stated that the batches in question were not manufactured by them and are being investigated as counterfeit. They highlighted their efforts to combat counterfeiting through the use of QR codes and 3D security strips on their products.
Torrent Pharma, in a similar vein, confirmed that the Shelcal 500 batch seized by the CDSCO was not manufactured by them and was counterfeit. The company highlighted their use of QR codes to verify the authenticity of their products.
Alkem Laboratories and Glenmark also emphasized their commitment to quality and condemned the counterfeit products, urging pharmacy outlets to only source their medications from authorized stockists.
The CDSCO report also highlighted several batches of drugs that failed quality tests, including dissolution tests and assays. This incident further underscores the ongoing challenge of counterfeit drugs in India and the need for robust measures to ensure patient safety.
