**Madrid, Spain** – Karim Aïnouz’s upcoming film, “Rosebush Pruning,” has undergone a cast shake-up. While Elle Fanning remains on board, Kristen Stewart and Josh O’Connor have been replaced by Riley Keough (known for “Daisy Jones & The Six”) and Callum Turner (star of “Masters of the Air”). The change is attributed to scheduling conflicts, with Stewart currently focused on post-production for her own project, “The Chronology of Water.”
The film, a MUBI, The Match Factory, and Fremantle production, is an adaptation of Marco Bellochio’s 1972 psychological drama “Fists in the Pocket.” Aïnouz is directing from a script by Efthimis Filippou, known for his work on films like “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”
“Rosebush Pruning” boasts a star-studded cast, including newly added names like Jamie Bell (“All of Us Strangers”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), Tracy Letts (“Lady Bird”), Elena Anaya (“The Skin I Live In”), and Pamela Anderson, who is currently making a big screen comeback with “The Last Showgirl.”
Director Aïnouz shared his enthusiasm for the project: “I’m so excited to bring this audacious and delicious script to life, which challenges our notions of the traditional family and the patriarchy, with this brilliant ensemble of actors who I have long admired.”
Production is currently underway in Spain. “Rosebush Pruning” is co-produced by The Match Factory, The Apartment, Surfilm, and Crybaby and is financed by MUBI, The Apartment, Metafilms, Anna Films, and In Bloom. The film also received funding from the German Federal Film Board, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Medienboard, and the BFI.
