Thu Sep 26 12:00:12 UTC 2024: ## UK Targets Russian LNG Shipping with New Sanctions

**LONDON, UK** – The UK government has announced new sanctions targeting five vessels and two associated entities involved in the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). This marks the first time the UK has directly targeted LNG vessels using new legal powers.

The sanctioned entities include White Fox Ship Management and Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC, while the vessels targeted are Asya Energy, Pioneer, North Sky, SCF La Perouse, and Nova Energy.

The government stated that this action builds upon previous sanctions imposed on Arctic LNG 2, a project crucial for Russia’s future energy production. Earlier this year, the US and EU joined the UK in imposing sanctions on the project, which has since reportedly experienced a significant production decline.

This latest move comes after the UK sanctioned ten additional ships in Russia’s “shadow fleet” earlier this month, targeting vessels suspected of engaging in illicit practices to evade Western restrictions on Russian oil.

Russia has consistently rejected Western pressure to limit its oil exports, and in the past year, there has been a notable increase in the number of tankers transporting cargoes without regulation or insurance from conventional Western providers.
