Thu Sep 26 13:17:46 UTC 2024: ## UK Targets Russian LNG Shipping with First Direct Sanctions

**London, UK** – The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on five vessels and two associated entities involved in the transport of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking the first time the government has used new powers to directly target LNG carriers.

The move builds upon previous sanctions on the Arctic LNG 2 project, which has already seen production significantly reduced due to the combined efforts of the UK, US, and EU. The government statement emphasizes the importance of targeting entities involved in the Russian LNG sector, which plays a crucial role in Russia’s future energy production.

Among the sanctioned entities are White Fox Ship Management and Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC, along with the vessels Asya Energy, Pioneer, North Sky, SCF La Perouse, and Nova Energy.

This latest action follows the UK’s earlier sanctions on 10 ships belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which employs illicit practices to circumvent Western restrictions on Russian oil. Russia has rejected Western pressure to limit its oil exports, leading to an increase in the number of tankers operating outside of traditional Western regulation and insurance.

The UK’s targeting of LNG shipping highlights the ongoing international effort to curtail Russia’s energy revenue and cripple its capacity for military action.
