**SAN DIEGO, CA – September 26, 2024** – BAE Systems has secured a $177.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to perform maintenance and modernization work on the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97). The contract could reach a total of $225.5 million if all options are exercised.
The work, scheduled to begin later this month and continue into 2026, will be conducted at BAE Systems’ San Diego shipyard. The extensive project will include dry-docking the ship, performing underwater hull preservation, upgrading the Aegis combat system with the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (Block 3), enhancing command-and-control systems, and refurbishing living spaces for the ship’s 260 crewmembers.
“This type of deep-level sustainment work is critical to maintaining the combat effectiveness of the USS Halsey,” said Eric Icke, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair. “Our San Diego team is prepared to conduct the assigned DMP work, enabling the Halsey to move into its next phase of fleet readiness.”
This will be BAE Systems’ fifth DMP project and follows the recent completion of similar work on the USS Mustin (DDG 89).
The USS Halsey, commissioned in 2005, is the 47th ship in the Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers and is named after Fleet Admiral William F. Bull Halsey, a renowned figure in the Pacific theater during World War II.
BAE Systems is a leading provider of ship repair, maintenance, modernization, and overhaul services for the U.S. Navy and other government agencies. The company operates three full-service shipyards in California, Florida, and Virginia.
