**Washington, DC -** AHA member Jennifer Tucker, a historian at Wesleyan University, has been appointed to the inaugural Lancet Commission on Global Gun Violence and Health. The commission, a first-of-its-kind initiative, will focus on understanding and addressing the global impact of gun violence.
“Gun violence is a global health crisis with devastating consequences,” said Tucker. “This commission aims to shed light on the causes and effects of this issue, fostering evidence-based strategies to prevent further harm and save lives.”
Tucker, who has extensive research experience on the topic, will collaborate with experts from various disciplines to develop comprehensive solutions. She also co-authored an op-ed with Robert Muggah (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro) highlighting the commission’s critical role in tackling this global health emergency.
The AHA, which represents historians across specializations and professional contexts, welcomes Tucker’s appointment to the commission and supports its efforts to address the complex issue of gun violence.
