Thu Sep 26 13:30:10 UTC 2024: ## Galway County Council Unveils First Affordable Homes in Over a Decade

**Claregalway, Co. Galway:** The first affordable homes in Co. Galway in over 10 years are nearing completion and will soon be available for purchase through the local authority. The Garraí Na Gaoithe development on Lakeview Road in Claregalway will offer 61 units, ranging in price from €245,000 to €441,750.

The initial phase of the development, comprising 17 homes, will be ready for purchase later this month. This phase includes a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses. Applications will be accepted online from October 14th to November 11th.

An information evening for interested buyers will be held at the Claregalway Hotel on Thursday, October 3rd at 7pm.

Galway County Council’s Director of Services for Housing, Michael Owens, emphasized the development is being made possible through the Affordable Housing Act 2021.

“This is the first time in 12 years that affordable homes are being delivered in Galway,” said Galway County Council Chairman, Fianna Fáil Cllr Albert Dolan, who stressed the council’s commitment to expanding the county’s affordable housing stock.

Located within a 10km commute of Galway City and close to local amenities and schools, the development is expected to attract significant interest.

The remaining phases of the development are set to commence in January and will be delivered in mid-2025 and later next year.
