Wed Sep 25 07:32:01 UTC 2024: ## Russian Strikes Kill Three in Kharkiv, Zelenskyy Calls for Action at UN

**Kharkiv, Ukraine** – Russian missile strikes on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to over 30, Ukrainian officials confirmed. The attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, including an apartment building, a bakery, and a stadium.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is currently in the United States, released a photograph of the apartment building, showcasing the devastation caused by the strikes. He condemned the attacks as targeting “the everyday life of ordinary people” and urged the international community to take action to stop the “terror.”

Addressing the UN General Assembly, Zelenskyy stated that while discussions about security and the future are ongoing, immediate action is necessary to stop Russian aggression. “We just need to stop the terror,” he emphasized.

Later, addressing the UN Security Council, Zelenskyy asserted that talks alone cannot calm the war. He declared that Russia, as the sole aggressor and violator of the UN Charter, must be “forced into peace.”

The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, reported that the targeted apartment building had been hit at the beginning of the invasion in 2022 and was nearing completion of repairs. Regional prosecutors confirmed that the city was struck by six Russian guided bombs.

In addition to Kharkiv, Russian shelling in Pokrovsk resulted in two deaths, according to Agence France-Presse. Furthermore, a Ukrainian official reported one fatality and six injuries in Zaporizhzhia due to Russian attacks.

Ukrainian military officials revealed that Russia launched four missiles and 81 drones targeting Ukraine on Tuesday. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 66 drones. The attacks impacted multiple regions, including Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Sumy, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr.

The Poltava region experienced damage to energy infrastructure and power outages due to falling debris from destroyed Russian drones. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down several Ukrainian drones in its border regions.
