Wed Sep 25 10:00:10 UTC 2024: ## “Ring of Fire” Eclipse to Grace South America in October 2024
Get ready for a celestial spectacle! On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, an annular solar eclipse, also known as a “ring of fire” eclipse, will be visible from the South Pacific Ocean, southern South America, and the South Atlantic Ocean.
This unique eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, but is slightly farther away than usual, leaving a brilliant ring of sunlight visible around the moon’s silhouette.
Unlike a total solar eclipse, where the moon completely covers the sun, an annular eclipse only partially blocks the sun’s center, leaving a dazzling ring for several minutes.
While the path of annularity will stretch across 8,800 miles, it will only pass through two countries: Chile and Argentina. Those within the path of annularity will experience the “ring of fire” effect.
Partial views of the eclipse will be visible from parts of Mexico, particularly the west coast of Baja California Sur and a strip of coastal Jalisco. The closer you are to the path of annularity, the more substantial the partial eclipse will be.
Experts urge viewers to protect their eyes by wearing certified solar eclipse glasses throughout the entire eclipse.
So, mark your calendars for October 2, 2024, and prepare to witness the captivating “ring of fire” eclipse!
