**Mountain View, CA – September 25, 2023** – Google is celebrating the global love of popcorn with a fun and interactive Doodle game, available on its homepage for 48 hours. The game, which commemorates the anniversary of the world’s largest popcorn machine being awarded a Guinness World Record, allows users to play as un-popped kernels navigating a world of butter-wielding enemies.
Players can choose from three characters and compete alone or with friends in “squad mode.” The game features multiple rounds, with the objective being to avoid the various projectiles thrown by enemies, such as an evil stick of butter.
“We had a fantastic time creating it,” says Brian Murray, Doodle lead engineer, “and we hope people have just as much fun playing it!”
The Doodle game is available in several countries, reflecting the different names and flavors of popcorn around the world. From “pipoca” in Brazil to “nori-topped popcorn” in Japan, the game highlights the global appeal of this beloved snack.
This latest Doodle is a part of Google’s long tradition of celebrating various subjects through interactive and engaging experiences on its homepage. Since 1998, Google Doodles have honored everything from Filipino adobo to Black cartoonists, showing the company’s commitment to cultural diversity and appreciation.
