**Mountain View, CA** – Google is popping off today with a special interactive Doodle celebrating the global love for popcorn. In addition to the artistic design on its homepage, users can play a popcorn-themed game against each other or friends.
The game, which features an un-popped kernel dodging enemy pellets, is a first for Google Doodles, allowing the largest number of players to compete simultaneously. Players can choose from three character options and utilize arrow keys and space bar to navigate the game.
“We had a fantastic time creating it, and we hope people have just as much fun playing it!” said Brian Murray, Doodle lead engineer.
The game is available in multiple countries, highlighting the diverse ways popcorn is enjoyed around the world. From “pipoca” in Brazil to Za’atar popcorn in the Middle East, the Doodle celebrates the global snack.
Google’s Doodle coincides with the anniversary of the largest popcorn machine ever created, which was awarded a Guinness World Record on Sept. 26, 2020. The game will be live for 48 hours until Sept. 26 at 11:59 p.m.
This latest Doodle continues Google’s tradition of creating unique and engaging homepages. Since 1998, Doodles have celebrated various subjects, from Filipino adobo to teachers and even the inventor of the Zamboni.
So grab a bowl of popcorn, fire up your browser, and enjoy Google’s latest interactive Doodle. You butter believe it’s a fun way to celebrate the iconic snack.
